Confidential individual, family and group counseling is available through the Center. A variety of scheduled support groups are available for those coping with health problems, depression, caregiving, bereavement and other issues. See the center calendar for details.
A registered nurse provides preventive and health maintenance programs for seniors at the Center. These services include blood pressure screening, exercise programs, and health-related presentations. Memorial Healthcare System provides monthly screenings and flu shots.
Information about community resources and assistance in obtaining needed services are available by telephone or in person. We provide referrals for housing, transportation and emergency food provisions.
Applicant households must have a member who is at least 60 years of age, meet financial eligibility guidelines, and have an imminent energy crisis. If all criteria is met, the program will pay up to $600 for a final notice or turn-off notice from FPL.
The first program of its kind in Florida, BSIE is a specialized court intervention program for first-time elderly offenders of misdemeanor crimes. Started in 1979, it operates at four Broward Courthouses. This program is approved by the judges and state’s attorney and is recognized throughout Broward County. The Broward Sheriff Office and City of Hollywood Police Department’s Law Enforcement Forfeiture/Trust Fund have supported this program. The JMSC administers this program throughout Broward County.
